How I Made Nearly $100k in 2 Years With the Write Your Way to Freedom Copywriting Course
Over 3 years ago, I wrote my first honest review of Sarah Turner’s WYWTF copywriting course, describing how I built my copywriting business from the ground up. Since then, I’ve continued to grow my copywriting business as my primary source of income, earning a combined total of $92,019 from my copywriting client work in the years 2021 and 2022.
Do I still recommend Sarah Turner’s WYWTF copywriting course? Absolutely.
This is my updated honest review of Sarah Turner’s Write Your Way to Freedom copywriting course. It’s been 4 years since I bought the course in February 2019. To this day, I continue to use the tools and lessons I’ve learned from WYWTF to run and grow my copywriting business. You can read my original review to get an idea of what it was like to start off with the course.
As a disclaimer, I’m an actual student of WYWTF and I also know Sarah personally. I’ve worked full-time as a self-employed legal content copywriter for the last 4 years. I’ve worked with over 36 law firm clients since then, writing legal content for their websites and social media. I may be compensated if you sign up for WYWTF by clicking through the links on this page.
I’m posting this updated review because Write Your Way to Freedom literally changed my life. I want to show people that this course presents an achievable, long-term strategy for success. Building a business from the ground up wasn’t easy but the course made it so much easier. And now that I’ve found my groove, it’s gotten even easier to run and grow my copywriting business over time. And if I had to do it all over again, I would tell myself to buy the course even sooner.

What Is Write Your Way to Freedom?
Write Your Way to Freedom (WYWTF for short) is a course created by Sarah Turner that teaches you how to establish and grow an online copywriting business from the ground up.
The 8 Write Your Way to Freedom course modules cover:
- Cultivating a business owner mindset
- Picking a niche and building a foundation
- How to actually get started writing
- Building a website and other business tools
- Getting clients and growing your client base
- How to pitch and onboard your clients
- SEO and keyword planning skills
- Other types of copywriting
You can complete the modules at your own pace but I do recommend completing them in order. I especially recommend focusing on the first two modules because the mindset work was incredibly valuable for me. I learned how to confront my fears, hone my strengths, and embrace working like a business owner, not an employee. After all, I call the shots now.
In addition, when you buy the WYWTF course, you get to join the WYWTF online community, led by the mentorship of Sarah and a number of other professional copywriters. Originally, this group started as a Facebook group and then moved to its own independent website.
The importance of the Write Your Way to Freedom online community cannot be overstated. Writing can be lonely work, but it doesn’t have to be. Having a supportive community made all the difference in my business journey. If you have a question that you can’t find the answer to in the course materials, you can reach out to the community and people will help. You can even find job opportunities from writers who have an overflow of work or clients outside their niche.
Sarah and several other mentors are also regularly active within the group, responding to posts and holding weekly live Q&A sessions to address individual student concerns.
The Benefits of Write Your Way to Freedom
- A constantly growing library of valuable lessons
- The ability to learn and work at your own pace
- A supportive community to help answer your questions
- Active community fostering by Sarah and other mentors
- The low overhead cost of setting up a copywriting business
- The freedom of creating a life that aligns with your values
Like many other people, I was initially skeptical when I saw the WYWTF course. I’d never paid for an unaccredited online course before, and especially not that much money. I let the first enrollment period pass me by but quickly signed up when enrollment opened up a second time.
I was very determined to build my own copywriting business and committed my full attention to the effort as soon as I finished the main modules. I did have some trouble finding clients at first, but that was because I was looking in the wrong places. As soon as I started growing my network on LinkedIn (where lawyers love to hang out), my client base really took off.
WYWTF actually has a lesson now on how to use LinkedIn for the best results. That’s another great part of the course – Sarah keeps adding more content. She has added multiple lessons, some by other experts, including one by me on how to best use Google Analytics to write case studies that impress potential clients.
The nice thing about having a copywriting business is the low cost of overhead. In the graph above, you can see that out of $92k billed, I reported $74.5k in profit. Most of my expenses are credit card transaction fees, software subscriptions, and bar admission fees to keep my legal license active since that’s a selling point of my legal copywriting business.
In addition to taking the course at your own pace, you can also come back to the course or the community whenever you need to. To be honest, in the last 2 years, I haven’t interacted with the WYWTF course or the online community that much. I simply haven’t needed to. But I have occasionally gone back to the mindset materials to reevaluate my goals.
Now, I love the life that I’ve built for myself as an independent business owner. I set my own rates and pick which clients I want to work with. I choose when I start and finish work for the day. I get to spend the day comfortably at my home office with my dog. I rarely set an alarm in the morning. I conduct most of my client communication through email. I generally work 6 hours per day, which gives me enough time to focus on my health and other projects, too.
To conclude, Write Your Way to Freedom is not a scam. On the contrary – WYWTF is jam-packed with value and support for building your own copywriting business. I highly recommend WYWTF if you want to build your own online copywriting business. For your peace of mind, the course comes with a 14-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked.
